More control over shadows

I am trying to create a screenshot with a dropshadow and a transparent background. But right now if I apply a shadow it goes all the way to the edge of the frame. Meaning that when I use the image on my website, there’s an awkward line where the gradient from the shadow stops. Improving this or providing more control over the spread of the shadow would be really helpful for my use case.
